Belonging to the Beaches Business Association (B.B.A.) is like having a best friend "in the know" at the beaches.

HISTORY
 

“THE DAWNING OF A NEW BUSINESS ASSOCIATION”

 DURING THE FALL AND WINTER OF 1991 SOME OF THE MEMBERS OF THE  NORTH JACKSONVILLE BUSINESS MEN’S ASSOCIATION WHO RESIDE IN THE BEACHES AREA BEGAN TO DISCUSS THE FORMATION OF A BEACHES BUSINESS CLUB.

THOSE FORMING THE NUCLEI OF THE CLUB WERE THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS FROM THE NORTH JACKSONVILLE BUSINESS MEN’S ASSOCIATION:

THE ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING WAS HELD MARCH 7,1991, AT THE SEA TURTLE INN, ATLANTIC BEACH, FL. WITH DR. ROBERT GROVENSTEIN PRESIDING.  THE PURPOSE OF THE ASSOCIATION WAS DISCUSSED AND AGREED UPON.  THE FIRST OFFICERS WERE ELECTED AS FOLLOWS:

(The first organizational meeting of the Beaches Business )

BEACHES BUSINESS ASSOCIATION MINUTES MARCH 7, 1991  

ORGANIZATION MEETING

SEA TURTLE INN  

MARCH 7, 1991  

                The meeting was called to order by Bob Grovenstein who stated that the purposes of the Beaches Business Association are:

                                *Promote the Beaches business environment

                                *Promote the maintenance and improvement of the Beaches’ residential and business communities

                                *Support projects for the betterment of the Beaches community

                                *Each individual introduced himself/herself.  

                                By-Laws:  association name, and frequency, day of the week, and location of meetings were discussed.  Dr. Grovenstein introduced the Northside Businessmen’s Club By-Laws as a guide to formulating By-Laws for the BBA.  After motion, second, and voting, the name of the association is Beaches Business Association; the meetings will be held weekly at 7:30 am, Monday, at the Sea Turtle Inn.  The dues structure was discussed and voted to be $25.00 per member annually.  

                A roster of officers was nominated for vote at the March 18, 1991, meeting.  Nominations from the floor will be taken.  The elected officers will constitute the Board or the Beaches Business Association.  Nominated were:

                Sgt. At Arms:                                        Ron Allen

 

                Barry Adeeb spoke to the issue of keeping the St. Johns Ferry.  Those present affirmed support of the project to retain the ferry.  Mr. Adeeb was scheduled to speak at the March 11, 1991 meeting.  Councilman Joe Forshee will also be invited to speak at the meeting to relate the impact that eliminating the ferry would have on his district.

 

                There being no further business, the first organizational meeting of the Beaches Business Association was adjourned.
