The presidential election is over and the people selected those who will thake charge in January 2009. We have a choice when we vote, thus a democracy. We do not individually select the winner, we are united in this effort. So, we as a whole must continue our support of those elected, both locally and nationally.

George Forbes, Jacksonville Beach City Manager, was our guest speaker this week and highlighted some of the improvements and programs scheduled for the upcoming year in Jacksonville Beach. In the area of transportation improvements, the State is scheduled to begin redoing A1A in January 2009, additional traffic signals are planned for key intersections to improve traffic flow and count-down timers will begin appearing at cross streets for pedestrians.
To enhance safety in the area, the much successful Downtown Policing Program will be expanded to 4 officers and provide a very visible Police presence. Additionally, the planned purchase of a van to transport downtown any homeless individuals who welcome the assistance of the Sulzbacher organization, will further expand efforts to get them off the street and back on their feet.
New regulations will also be adopted in the near future to enhance and preserve Jacksonville Beach resources. A few of the areas mentioned were watering & irrigation, use of fertilizers and Site and Developing guidelines.
George concluded with their commitment to continue to lead as a service provider for all Jacksonville Beach residents.
Also, Steve Scarborough presented the new “pay online” feature recently completed on the BBA website. This will further enhance the capabilities of our website by allowing existing members to renew their annual membership online and new members to join.
